Getting Started

The Expanding First Response Assessment Tool is designed to help jurisdictions determine their planning, implementation, or sustainability status and then to receive resources to support them or to amplify their success story.

Select the appropriate tool to take based on the phase your program is currently in.

Most community responder programs fall within one of five phases: (1) exploration, (2) planning, (3) early implementation, (4) pilot program, and (5) fully operational.

Answer the questions to assess your planning, implementation, or sustainability status.

Each assessment has eight sections of questions that correspond with the eight sections of the toolkit. Most users should be able to complete the entire assessment in less than 15 minutes. For each question, you must choose one of three selections:

  • Red circle with x in itNo
  • yellow circle with minus sign in middleUnsure
  • green circle with checkmark in centerYes

These responses will be used to determine your overall assessment results.

View your results and choose how you would like to engage with us further.

Once you have completed the assessment, you will receive a summary of your responses. You may also receive tips and resources to help improve your progress toward sustainable implementation of your program. Resources can include online publications, peer learning opportunities, and direct assistance.

To begin your assessment, you’ll be asked to select the phase your program is currently in. This phase will dictate which assessment you take on behalf of your program. Communities can return to this tool to take the next assessment as they reach the turning point from one phase to another.
