Data Collection and Information Sharing

Current data on behavioral health needs of people in the criminal justice system are often disjointed, and many communities lack needed infrastructure to collect, share, and analyze data.

Communities need to share data for two related, but distinct reasons: (1) to inform policy and budgeting and (2) for case coordination across agencies working with the same person. These efforts often require different data (e.g., aggregated vs. identifying information) and have distinct policy strategies associated with them.

This section walks users through five core policy areas where states can advance the appropriate collection, use, and sharing of relevant data.
